Toms River Received The Second-Most Carry Permit Applications in the State Following Supreme Court Bruen Decision

Toms River Township received the second-most applications for permits to carry a handgun in the state following the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision, which made it easier to secure those permits, according to a new database released by the Attorney General’s Office.

In the nearly two years since the decision known as Bruen, 742 Toms River residents applied for a carry permit according to the newly released data.

Newark, the state’s most populous city, was first, with 755 applications.

Lakewood received 316 applications and Jackson had 381.

As earlier reported by TLS, in the months following the October 7th attack in Israel, the Lakewood Police Department has seen an extreme surge in gun permit and CCW applications, including over 700 applications in one month alone – a new record.

Meanwhile, the state continues to battle a legal challenge to the gun legislation signed into law by Governor Murphy in December 2022.
