Vaad Mishmeres Kohanim of Lakewood announced today that extensive tree cutting and trimming near several area cemeteries has addressed longstanding concerns for kohanim, allowing them to travel on the affected stretches of road without relying on kulos.
The undertaking was made possible through the assistance of R’ Menashe Miller of Lakewood Township and County Commissioner R’ Shmuel Ellenbogen. As first reported by TLS, R’ Menashe Miller connected the rabbanim of Vaad Mishmeres Kohanim of Lakewood with the Ocean County Roads Department, particularly Roads Department Supervisor Mr. Art Reece. Working together, they inspected the areas of concern and identified the necessary work. The department’s expertise, cooperation, and sensitivity to the community’s needs have now helped resolve these issues along numerous county roads.
The locations addressed include:
- County Line Road, between Route 9 and Clifton Avenue.
- Ridge Avenue, near East County Line Road.
- Honey Locust Drive, between Massachusetts Avenue and Route 9.
- Lakewood–New Egypt Road in Jackson, a route used by many kohanim returning from I-195.
- Old Freehold Road in Toms River.
- Route 166 in Toms River.
The Vaad also extended its appreciation to Lakewood Township officials for additional tree trimming on Clifton Avenue and Courtney Road near Bais Faiga.
“Vaad Mishmeres Kohanim of Lakewood expresses its sincere appreciation to R’ Menashe Miller, County Commissioner R’ Shmuel Ellenbogen, Mr. Art Reece, the entire Ocean County Roads Department team, and Lakewood Township officials for their dedicated efforts and assistance in bringing this important project to fruition,” the Vaad told TLS.
