[UPDATE: 3:01pm February 29] Tolls on the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike will be going up at midnight on Thursday for the third straight time.
Beginning Friday morning, the average toll on the Turnpike will now go up by 15 cents to $5.11, and the average toll on the Parkway would increase by 5 cents to $1.57, while most entrance and exit ramp cash tolls would rise five cents to 80 cents, or by three cents for drivers with EZ-Pass.
Original story below.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority voted unanimously this afternoon to once again approve its 2024 budget which includes a toll hike for the Garden State Parkway and New Jersey Turnpike for a third straight year.
The $2.62 billion budget, which is a $94.4 million, or 3.8%, increase from the 2023 budget, includes a 3% toll increase – which is on top of last year’s 3% increase, which itself was on top of the previous year’s 3% increase.
However, today’s vote comes just months after Governor Murphy previously vetoed the planned toll hike – which was announced just days before the legislative elections this past November.
But his past veto notwithstanding, Murphy is expected to sign off on the budget approved today.
According to the budget approved today, the average toll on the Turnpike will now go up by 15 cents to $5.11, and the average toll on the Parkway would increase by 5 cents to $1.57, according to Turnpike Authority spokesman Tom Feeney.
The new rates will go into effect March 1st.
The ultimate highway robbery, and no one does anything about it.
If everyone had a backbone there should be a auto/ truck strike. Nobody should drive until they lower all tolls
Take rt 9 instead, which i think is easier than not driving at all
It’s mind boggling how they can tax and tax and and we continue to vote in DEMOCRATS!!
The definition of insanity is to continue to do the same thing and expect different outcomes.
Hello NJ you get what you vote for!
Republicans like Trump manipulate Tax ! Actually most businesses are less than honest with Taxes so what’s your point?
Tolls rose when Christie was governor too.
One word…
SICK!!!!!!¡
I was worried about this many years ago when they switched to EZ Pass and more so with cashless. There used to be outrage during toll hikes when drivers had to fish money out of their pockets.
Now the outrage is but temporary upon hearing the news and then they move along. If you ask people today, most don’t even know how much they’re paying.
As far as taking the Nine is concerned, i once made that mistake. Every township has their own speed trap and one ticket makes up for a years worth of tolls. Not to mention points on your license.
So we’re left with what there is.
Ok, I’m raising my Amazon store by 3%.
Can’t keep up as is.
I cant help but wonder why the toll has increased to an odd number $1.57, and not a round number like $1.55 or $1.60. Is it because they want everyone to have EZ pass?
Bring back the toll booths and get rid of the E~Z pass 😝
