The Toms River Township Council has canceled its regular October 14 meeting and called a special meeting for tonight to take action on affordable housing compliance.
The special meeting will “consider and act upon matters as may be presented at the meeting, including but not limited to: action items requiring immediate action regarding affordable housing compliance.”
The township’s fourth-round affordable housing plan has been the subject of a prolonged battle between Mayor Daniel Rodrick and the Township Council majority. At a special meeting in July, the council advanced ordinances implementing portions of the plan, including 100% affordable housing developments on Lakewood Road, and approved a resolution authorizing an amended mediation agreement with Fair Share Housing Center.
As previously reported on TLS, the township Planning Board in March recommended the zoning changes needed for the plan, sending them to the council for a vote – click here for that story.
