UPDATE: Toms River Civilian Patrol Could Soon Accept Applications

As first reported on TLS yesterday, a new civilian patrol is expected to be launched in Toms River.

Community activists who are working on the unit behind the scenes tell TLS they have received a tremendous amount of interest from potential volunteers for the program.

The unit, which could soon be accepting applications, will accept applications from all residents of all races and religions. Applicants will obviously need to be vetted before being accepted into the unit.

As earlier reported, this organization would be under the auspices of the Toms River Police Department, and is not connected to any other volunteer patrol units.

Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little tells TLS the plans have not yet been finalized, but this is one of multiple ideas he’s working on to up the safety around town.
