FIRST REPORT: Toms River to Form Civilian Patrol Unit Under Auspices of TRPD

The Toms River community will be forming a civilian patrol unit, TLS has confirmed.

The Toms River Civilian Patrol unit will be under the auspices of the Toms River Police Department.

The formation of this unit comes after weeks of armed robberies and burglaries throughout the Township.

The unit will not be affiliated with any current patrol units, Askonim say, and the job of the unit is to simply report to police any suspicious activities.

Further details about the unit will be released in the coming days.

  1. if they would have ignored the hurt and suffering of the victims it could have spiraled out of control and resulted in vigilante style home protection and we would find ourselves in the wild west instead they took it seriously and with foresight created this police department patrol

  2. Aren’t we as citizens supposed to say something if we see something. I don’t agree with civilians patrolling our streets. Well, are they only patrolling their streets? Tom’s river is large. Is this town wide or just North side? Honest question….

    • the town is huge but the undeveloped land does not need regular patrols, the downtown is already full of government security, and what is left are the few neighborhoods which recently transformed from farmland to residential and they are asking for more patrols

  3. Kudos to Chief Little & Sheriff Mastronardi for stepping up the patrols in the neighborhood, It helps us all sleep better knowing that you guys are out there over night. Thank you to Mayor Rodrick for approving the overtime and working with the Chief on getting this done. And Thank you to all the Askanim who put in tireless effort to make this patrol a realty.
The entire community is thankful for all of you.

  4. Maybe signage about the Patrols posted in neighborhoods all over Toms River would help ward off some of these criminals. Something like ” TRAINED PATROL SURVEILLANCE”
