UPDATE: New Details into the Fire at the Lakewood UPS Facility

Officials today released new details into the fire at the UPS facility in Lakewood.

Last night, around 6:50 PM, the Lakewood Fire Department was dispatched to 710 Vassar Avenue for a reported fire in a 53-foot trailer.

“Upon arrival, 4 trailers were on fire and 3 straight trucks,” officials stated. “With severe exposure to the building the incident was again upgraded to a Working Structure Fire. Due to the complexity of conveyor belts and machinery, it took 7 minutes from arrival to water on the fire.”

Crews were called in from Brick, Toms River and Point Pleasant for mutual aid.

“They worked alongside Lakewood Firefighters to bring this incident under control in about an hour. Units operated on scene for about 5 hours. The cause was determined by the Ocean County Fire Marshals to be lithium ion batteries in one of the Trailers.
