Question:
Why do I see so many people driving with their cell phones in hand? It appears that there aren’t too many tickets being given out, because otherwise drivers would be more cautious.
Mindy
The Chief’s Response:
Great question about cell phone use and officers are always on the lookout for that and write tickets whenever possible.
I myself have seen the best thing ever. When I was sitting on 4th Street a few months back I was watching a woman in a minivan talking on her cell phone and as a police car turned the corner she flipped the phone into the backseat with the grace of a Olympian and grabbed the steering wheel with both hands. When she looked over at us we were clapping and applauding the move.
We get NJ State grants for cell phone enforcement a few times a year and are able to extra details just looking for cell phone use and we will continue to do so.
Thank you for your question,
Chief Meyer
Sadly I’ve seen many law enforcement ppl doing the same. We need them to stay safe so that we can be safe.
By law they are aloud to if it’s related to a call

What about if my call is call related ? Can I also use that as an excuse to always be on the phone.

Please dont ask the Cops to give out more tickets , if you want to improve safety then ask our Rabbonim and askonim to talk more about driving safely
