After Paralyzing Storm, Lakewood Digging Out

whispering_pines_snow_man29:42 a.m. We have been receiving emails all morning from many residents about why their streets have not seen a plow and where the DPW is. TLS spoke with Department of Public Works Head John Franklin moments ago who said “We got a lot of snow and it’s taking us double the time to get things done”. “Just tell people not to get nervous please, we are doing the best we can”. He said the trucks are out there full force plowing and salting. He also added, that the streets which have vehicles parked along the roads are complicating the cleanup process. TLS will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed with all further updates.
10:24 a.m. If your believe your street has been missed, post it here and we will submit it to the appropriate parties.

11:21 a.m. ‘RebRambo’ writes: Thank you TLS for unbelievable coverage of the storm! Thank you John Franklin and Lakewood Public works! You guys are really working hard and we truly appreciate it! Not to sound selfish but Murray, Elaine, Summit, Williams South can use a plow. Also, the 9 has slabs of ice running the length from beginning of Lakewood. Keep up the great work and once again, THANKS!!!

  1. Why does such a big town have only about 30 trucks? How many of those are big trucks and how many are just small trucks that gets stuck themself in such a snow?

  2. East 9th – Princeton Lawrence side were not plowed. Thank you to all those Chaveirim members who drove people all over town to chasunahs last night in crazy weather.

  3. Regent drive has not been touched since yesterday morning when they were putting down sand. Over shabbos they did a great job. I think they forgot about us now.

  4. I just cannot believe the lack of common sense or the fact that you can even have the hutzpa to post some of the things you do. DPW is doing an awesome job, and has been going around the clock since before this storm even started. Then you want garbage pickup and your street done, what a bunch of cry babies. By the way, the major roads come first, secondary streets next, developments we never heard of come last. So remember when taxes go up a little to fund more trucks, men, don’t look to cut out a LIFE SAVING SERVICE for pennies on your tax bill. This city is growing, either bring in rateables to pay for it, or go cry to someone else. Thankyou to JF and all the boys doing a great job. Raintree looks great.

  5. Is everybody totally crazy!?!!? Do you ppl realize we got hit by a major blizzard?? There are trees and powerlines down all over the place & you expect your little street to be plowed perfectly immediately? This is not some powdery snow that is easily removable. state highways are still a mess. Next you’ll be screaming why your eruv hasn’t been repaired yet!

  6. Just a whole bunch of whining loosers! If they had 100 trucks you would still be complaining! They couldnt start plowing since who knows when last night! There are thousands of streets – and cul-de-sacs – it takes time! Everybody Relax! they are doing the best they can! THANK YOU DPW!

  7. I need to buy my bug-free gefilte fish to make for my chashuva husband who went to yeshiva this morning to daven vassikin! But i cant get out cause my bike is stuck – can someone help?

  8. Thank G-D for Chucky Riess and Tzalli Shechter if not for them High Street, and Sterling Place would still be under the snow. That team is like a hurricane shovel.

  9. could someone please find out if DPW was working through the night last night or they waited untill the morning to start the plowing. we do understand that it was a very heavy snow and its taking very long but the response still seems to be terribly slow.

  10. For all those that say the trucks are out working full force, noone i spoke to today saw even one plow. i understand this was a big snow, but at least do half as good as you did on shabbos.
Its obvious from all the comments above that most of lakewood has not seen a plow.
    WHERE ARE THE PLOWS!!!!!!!!

  11. Dear MR PLOW BOY

YOU MENTION THAT EVERYONE IS A CRY BABY HOWEVER IF YOU WOULD READ THE POST IT STATES THAT IF YOUR STREET WASNT PLOWED PLEASE COMMENT AND TLS WILL RELAY THE MESSAGE TO THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPART, EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THAT THIS WAS A BIG STORM AND JUST WANTS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARENT FORGOTTEN .

  12. why was presidential estates plowed early this morning and every development north and south of them was skipped over. (Chateau, Elmwood, High st and Sterling Forest!

  13. how can we move the cars if they dont come plow???? THERE IS A FOOT 1/2 OF SNOW. JUST LOOK AT ALL THE COMMENTS AND SEE HOW MANY STREETS WERE NOT PLOWED EVEN ONCE!! (INCLUDING MINE) JUST BECAUSE ONE HALF DECENT JOB WAS DONE SATURDAY NIGHT IS NO EXCUSE FOR WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW!!!!!! IF THE SMALLER STREETS CANT EVEN EXPECT ONE PLOW B4 ALL THE BIG ROADS ARE DONE THEN WHY DO WE HAVE TO PAY TAXES LIKE THE BIG GUYS?????????? GIVE US BACK 1/2 THE $$$$ AND WE WILL HIRE A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR. WE WILL GET IT DONE MUCH BETTER AND CHEAPER

  14. why do I get the feeling that the MEASLY FEW people here giving muser how we should not complain are the people that have been plowed????? Very easy for you to say that they are doing a great job. How about opening your eyes just a little bit and seeing (and listening) to the majority of the people here in town that are stuck??
Just from this blog alone its obvious that that there tons (rather most) of street that have not been plowed even once.
Cmon TLS are you really communicating with John Franklin. Is he really hearing the tax payers of this town??

  15. The LPW is working hard. Yeah, real hard going up & down the busy streets for the 10th time. Thanx Alot. Did u notice how many roads weren’t touched ? Why cant you make the town into a grid, and give each truck one grid. So one truck does only Raintree/Red Oak area; one does Brookhill/ villas/ Agway area, Then Squankum, whispeing pines area, Then Princeton Till Forest, And so on. This is not Rocket Science. Its snow science. & With 30 truck you have 30 grids & Lakewood will be clean in 4 hours.

  16. i understand that its a big storm and a lot of work to clear up from, but why is it that in ny, they’re able to get it done so quickly and efficiently?? btw, my street was plowed : )

  17. tls:

please relay the message to dpw, that we at presidential estates would like to extend a very big thank you to the dpw for a job well done. left my house 7 am, and we were plowed beautifully.

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. everyone relax have a lchaim , the plows will get to your street shortly ,
We had 18 hours of snow fall, some common sense would say that you cant have every st plowed in a few hours,

  19. the down trees have been moved out of the road. would appreciate if the truck could return to plow street. great job dealing with the blizard.

  20. Areas & developments should learn from those developments who hired a private plow company and were cleared to the blacktop last night – for about a charge of about $5 a homeowner.

  21. I was up at 7 am shoveling out my driveway. Lakewood public works plowed out my street and salted. They were great!
And one fellow came back to open up a driveway where kids were shoveling. A friendly, courteous small act but it was most memorable.
After plowing all night this driver still had his big heart to help those little kids.
They are doing the best they can. This snow was much heavier than the recent snowfalls we’ve had. It might take a little longer but they will get everywhere eventually.

  22. In resonse to #18, I drove around Lakewood yesterday morning on different errands. While I did not drive down every single side street, it did appear that the township had did an excellent job. By every snow storm it appears that Sommerstet Ave. is one of the last streets to get done. Yesterday before the second storm hit, they had three trucks out there pushing all of the snow from the street into my driveway. They were definately out there.

  23. Are the people wanting to be heard actually taxpayers? Also, maybe the DPW budget has not been increased by an appropriate amount to account for all of the new residents moving in. Maybe this should be part of the 20 year plan. ???

  24. It is 2:54 PM , my street has not been plowed yet. Yesterday they came at around 6:00 AM. I don’t live in a development. I live on a regular street, where everyone’s car is in its driveway. I called the Public works 1/2 hour ago apologizing for being a nudnik to ask if the township intends to plow my street. i was answered very nicely that they intend to and it was okay for me to call. I just hope when they do plow I don’t get plowed in after all my hard work cleaning in front of my driveway where I shoveled myself out yesterday.

  25. I am waiting patiently for Ardenwood Ave. to be plowed at 3:00 PM. I am not complaining, but, maybe if I could leave my driveway, I could go to work. (I work in the afternoon B”H)

  26. The Van Buren Ave North area (Garfield, Buchanan, Oliver, Adams) has not been touched yet, we’re assuming because of a wire that had fallen. JCP&L took care of it, the streets are not blocked off anymore, and we would love to be plowed ASAP. Thanks.
