Jackson Mayor Michael Reina is one of many – including elected officials – calling out Governor Phil Murphy over his statements yesterday which called for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Murphy stated, “Over the past six months, tens of thousands of innocent civilians have died as a result of this conflict, and at this very moment, hundreds of thousands more people – especially women and children – are at dire risk of starvation. Here in New Jersey, one of the most diverse states in America and home to one of the largest Palestinian American communities, we know there are many families mourning the loss of innocent loved ones who have died in Gaza due to this conflict. I want these families to know that we grieve with them – and that we share in their pain and heartbreak.
“In that spirit, today, I am adding my voice in support of the Biden Administration’s efforts to secure an immediate and sustained ceasefire by all parties that includes the release of the remaining hostages being held by Hamas. Such an agreement will allow desperately needed humanitarian aid – food, water, medical supplies, and more – to flow into Gaza, saving potentially thousands of lives.”
“Governor Murphy once again overstepping his bounds and pay grade,” Jackson Mayor Michael Reina told TLS. “This latest approach of trying to prove his worth insults the 1200 lives lost in the cowardly Hamas attacks that murdered and raped innocent people. His careless statement sends a dark message to the people of Israel and the Jewish communities here and throughout the world.”
Dozens of readers on multiple TLS forums also strongly criticized the Governor for his comments.
Murphy, whose wife Tammy just ended her bid for the U.S. Senate seat earlier this week, is just the third governor in the country to call for a ceasefire. Governor Murphy is term-limited.
Don’t forget his wonderful COVID dictates and his permission to march in large groups without masks only when marching with BLM, but shut down all the restaurants and stores. Just because Cuomo was a bit worse doesn’t take the blame away from this ..
This Mayor is Republican and not a Democrat!!! He is right the Governor is bad
Thank you Mr. Mayor!!! I hope to see Avi Schnall follow your lead.
He’s not allowed to say anything against his new god, the Democrat party and it’s leaders.
you ARE a shmendrik
Avi’s a good guy.
I never said he was a bad guy. But as a member of the Democrat party caucus in Trenton, he will be useless if he steps on the party leadership. That’s the reality of the Democrat party in particular, and politics in general. The Democrats threw Jow Lieberman A”H out of the party becomes he went against their leadership decision.
So why hasn’t Avi said anything?
To whom? About what?
To the public. Denouncing the Governors horrible call for a ceasefire.
for Mr. Schnall to open his mouth would be to follow Mr. Murphy’s mistake, this is not a topic for discussion in Trenton, it had nothing to do with our local infrastructure, economic development, crime or education. Mr. Murphy had a bad dream that he was Secretary of State, Mr. Schnall was on the job and not even sleeping, does he need to respond to every Democrats nightmares???
No not very democrat nightmare, but he needs to respond to something as important as this.
He supposedly represents Jews, Judaism and the self proclaimed only Makom Torah in America. Thus as their representative he needs to respond to something that affects his constituents. Tomorrow when the dems support making a mosque and medrasa on georgian court college grounds, will you also say not for him to respond?
Don’t forget this in 2025
I attended this year’s Menorah lighting ceremony on the last night of Chanukah in the Governor’s mansion and I told the governor that there’s a lot of love for you out there in Lakewood to which the governor smiled and said ‘I know’….
Not sure that’s still the case Mr Governor. We all know why you’re saying what you said even though you know youre going to ruffle some feathers….because you’re term limited and you’re hoping for a second Biden term and trying to be in Biden’s good graces and to position yourself for a cabinet position during his second term but I got news for you Mr. Governor…. Biden is not going to win a second term..
just missing in the ceasefire ageement the surrender of hamas…
they will never surrender their whole mission is to fight till death against all Jews who try to support a Jewish settlement in Israel
Biden and the democrats give aid and comfort to Hamas. The Republicans support Israel.
