Please check your source. Since 2004 NJ Costco’s have had tp pump gas without a club membership as requiring a club membership violates NJ gas laws.
Incorrect. Costco was told incorrectly in 2004 that it was against the law. NJ 101.5 checked and there is no such law.
You don’t think Costco would’ve asked for proof of the law in 2004 when they were advised of this?
As gas prices go up and up the percentage that you save gets less and less
@cedarbridge They an always do what BJs does. Which is offer a significant discount if you have a BJs credit card.
I agree, using a Costco or BJ’s credit card will get you an additional discount on gas prices. However, I still believe that requiring a club membership in NJ to purchase gas at the pump price violates NJ law.
I was just at the Costco gas station in Willowbrook Mall and those sighns were on evry pump wall. They couldn’t do it unless there is a change in the law or they found a loop hole.
There hasn’t been a change in State Law. They’ll be quickly fined if they attempted to require membership cards in the state.
I’m sure Costco had checked before they made the change, I doubt they would risk being fined. I’m glad because the lines will be shorter for paying members.
For those wondering, it appears the 2004 law was revised multiple times.
Really? Link please. Can’t find a change anywhere.

You will probably need at least 50 fill ups at the pump to break even on the membership cost for their card. Yes, just another way to rip off the public.
In most states u must be a costco member to buy gas it isnt new
Groupon has a costco membership deal now that I bought for this purpose. You might want to look into it. I live in NJ not in Lakewood, but Costco here is doing the same.
In other states Costco has always required a membership to pump gas. The same goes for Sam’s Club.
