The popular Whatsapp messaging service crashed for many users on Thursday, forcing many to use other sources of communication – such as actually talking, some joked.
“It’s horrifying, people actually began talking to people face to face!” were the types of (unfortunate) jokes going around social media.
“Being down is probably the best thing to happen – might force people to actually talk to each other,” quipped another.
It’s unknown yet what caused the system to crash repeatedly around the U.S. and U.K. Few messages were going through since 11:30 AM on Thursday. As of this posting, approximately 1:45 PM, the system is still experiencing trouble.
According to Whatsapp, there are approximately one billion users worldwide.
