VIDEO: Whose Offense Was Worse?

A reader-submitted video from the Garden State Parkway shows a young child being held by a front seat passenger.

Whose offense was worse, the driver filming or the front seat passenger with the baby?

  1. The driver filming is much worse.
The baby was not driving the car. He is not endangering anyone. Just that in case of an accident he is not in the best position
The driver filming is in fact endangering his life and the lives of all around him by taking his attention off the road in front of him…

    • The question isn’t if the baby’s offense was worse, rather if the mother holding the baby who’s putting her child life at risk which is insane is worse. Call child services on those parents

    • On the flip side, the mother is endangering the child and that would seem to be for a prolonged period of time. The driver filming spent a mere few seconds taking the recording. He was also trying to create awareness to avoid dangerous behaviors and save peoples lives.

  2. The people in that car should all be arrested and charged with child endangerment and all their kids taken away.
G*d forbid there is an accident, that innocent child, who is defenseless and entrusts their safely to the caregivers, could be killed or badly injured, being forced to live a life of agony because of the stupidity and bad choices of someone else.

    • that’s idiotic. probably the baby was screaming bloody murder and was taken out momentarily to be soothed. Not the best idea, but certainly not deserving of having their child taken from them or arrested.
Dont let one 30 second snippet of someones mistake inform your view of their entire being, however egregious it might be.
      that is unintelligent and immoral.

  3. The person holding the baby is much worse. In case of an accident or even a short stop, the babies head will C”V go into the dashboard or windshield. Depending on the speed it would likely be a fatal injury C”V.

  4. My2cents I disagree. Many cars have technology to keep you in the lane and with adapter cruise control it will maintain the proper distance. If that car has those features then the short time needed for the video does not make anyone unsafe by the drivers action.

An unsecured baby is an issue because because you are putting a life at risk that can take no action to help themselves.

As a Jewish ride share driver it is not uncommon for me to pull up and be asked to drive someone with a baby and no child seat.

  5. The person with the unrestrained child should be Jailed. I have seen children like that killed. It is horrible. Child should be taken away and mother Jailed.

  6. Definitely the person holding the poor endangered baby. Any (even minor) impact would be catastrophic!! This was a matter of pikuach nefesh that was not even just a momentary lapse, but reckless behavior ongoing for many miles.

As for the driver filming, the whole clip is less than 10 seconds. Not saying itโ€™s the safest thing to do but experienced drivers can safely look to the side (depending on traffic & conditions) for a brief moment. Drivers use their peripheral vision a lot more than is realized. And to judge favorably, maybe driver had dash-cam & just pointed it in that direction without really taking eyes off the road at all.

    • I agree 100% , That child’s life is in danger , if an accident occurred ,the air bag would be deadly ,never mind the accident itself !

    • Moisser.. I want to understand that you are implying a child in a car seat that is in the back seat started choking and someone in the front seat, turned around and was able to unstrap the child before the driver could pull over when that car was in the left most lane and could very simply pull onto the left shoulder….

      • well emmanuel that actually has happened to me precisely it wasnt a real choke, but just a gag, but yes, my wife who was in the front passenger seat unbuckled herself, turned around and began unbuckling our baby from the car seat.
In the end we found a place we were able to pull over, but not immediately

  7. Firstly, if the baby was choking (stupid remark) how would they have gotten the baby out of the car seat without pulling off the road. There is never a reason the a baby should be in the front seat. As far as the driver taking pictures, yes it is dangerous but if they got the plate number and notified the state police it could have prevented a horrible situation. NEVER,NEVER should a baby or a child not be strapped into car seat. The law regarding car seats is there for a reason.

  8. It could be that a passenger was recording it…
Soo I’d have to go with the baby in the front.
They could have pulled over & calmed the kid down or sat in the back with the kid… & let the person driving do so by themselves in the front

  9. I’m not in disagreement with requiring children to be strapped in an appropriate child restraint as it’s much safer.

I’m just trying to understand the hysterics over someone who put their child in a dangerous position in the highly unlikely chance of a crash.

I say “highly unlikely” since if it was likely, we wouldn’t be driving so regularly.

Just thought someone should counter the hysterics of the self deflecting people who never see any wrong with themselves.

It’s always “Lets put THEM in jail!” or worse chvs”h.

    Calm down liberals!
