VIDEO & PHOTOS: “It’s all about saving a life.” That was the message Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato had for Ocean County police officers and the media on Friday when he addressed them during the State’s first rollout of Narcan – right here in Ocean County.
Narcan is an antidote to revive Heroin overdose patients, which is administered in the form of a nasal spray.
On Friday, Doctor Kenneth Lavelle conducted a training session at the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office headquarters for the Ocean County police officers who will go on to train their departments in the use of the antidote.
Following an hour long training session, the police officers got to practice on an actual Narcan item, which will be used by nearly every one of the 33 Ocean County municipalities.
The program comes in response to the Heroin epidemic which has claimed over 100 lives last year, and already about 10 this year.
What’s also great about the program, says Prosecutor Coronato, is that there’s no cost to the taxpayers, as the program is being funded by drug forfeiture money seized from drug dealers.
Since taking off last year, Coronato has been relentless in his war on drugs. His efforts have not only saved many lives, but has also made a large impact on drug dealers – and would-be drug dealers – around the County and beyond, by rounding up and prosecuting those responsible for the deaths and getting the County’s youths dragged into the fatal epidemic.

Shomer psoyim hashem. If people are foolish enough that they can’t control themselves so we have a product that now treats an illegal substance and its ok?
When are the politican s going to deal with this in a real way. If it is so rampant then either have guidelines and legalize all this stuff or crack down on it.
Funny I dont remember all these problems in the 50’s. I wonder what happened since then?
