A thief broke into The Choco Shoppe in Lakewood, and caused thousands of dollars in damage.
Surveillance video shows the suspect after breaking into the River Avenue shop making his way around – apparently in search of money.
After coming up empty handed, the thief then opened a fridge and destroyed thousands of dollars worth of cakes, the owner told TLS.
Police are investigating.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Lakewood Police Department at 732-363-0200.
He was looking for the recipe for $8 donuts
May g-d fulfill the loss and the cakes.
Maybe there is a lesson here, that cakes shouldn’t be “costing thousands of dollars”
I know Lakewood families that can’t make shabbos for their families, while stores are selling cakes for thousands of dollars and people are buying them, either to impress at events etc.
I don’t think that it is a good idea to give the owner Mussar a few hours after a large loss.
Maybe instead of posting your comment on the world wide web, why don’t you send him a an anonymous letter.
If the cards were turned around, how would you like to be treated.
Yechskel, ignore the comments above, you are working hard to make an honest living.
May HASHEM help you get out of this mess, and build back up stronger than ever.
By a close friend.!!!!!!!!
If you need any financial help, ask the Lakewood scoop who I am, and I would gladly help you.
I know the owner, personally. A צדיק of a person, always a genuine smile on his face. I’m saddened and hope he recovers from this loss.
Very upsetting.
Even more upsetting are the first 2 comments.
There is a time and place for everything. Don’t announce your disdain for a product when someone is going through a trauma, and his livelihood is at stake. Perhaps you do make a good point. But use your judgment and save your mussar for a mussar forum or a simcha forum. Someone invested time and talent to create a product that might bring him parnassah. Do you must besmirch his business?
I know the owner, great guy.
To all those saying “don’t sell $100 cakes, bec people cant make shabbos”, speak to the buyers!! Not the seller.
For all the people that know why HASEHEM made this happen!!!!
Maybe you can tell us, why we are still in GULUS?
@menachem. I know exactly why were in gulles. Because ppl give reasons for other people’s tzures. Instead of showing support and sympathy.
@Menachem
SHEITELS being too long
Menachem
Cause klal Yisroel won’t wake up and do teshuva as a loving nation together.
How can a nation expect recovery to Mashiach if we don’t repent for the sinas chinam that’s holding it up?
Ex. It’s insane for a person to expect to recover from a sickness without him doing his hishtadlus of going to the doctor and taking the medicine prescribed for his/her sickness
Menachem’s comment was rhetorical, and very sharp.
Before commenting on his comment, reread it and rethink it. It’s self-explanatory.
What a dumb burglar. It is 2019 the last time I used cash in a store was 3-4 years ago. Everything is done via credit card. All my friends were discussing the story as well and laughed at the attempt. Nobody uses cash any more in retail stores. Those days are history. My paycheck goes automatically into bank and my bank pays my cc bills. I walked into a bank to show my kids what a bank looks like about 2 yrs ago otherwise all is done via my phone or credit cards.
Once we are talking about 2019 I have 6 hidden cameras in my business and 4 in my home. And 4 going down each side of my block so unless you come to my home via helicopter to my roof you will be recorded. Everything is recorded nowadays.
To all those who don’t agree keep ur smart comments to urself . No one is forcing you to buy there it is ones choice if they want a cheap car or a fancy car a brand name piece of clothing or not … the same with food it is their choice to have a luxury item from the choco shoppe or a non luxury item . Just because you dont choose to have luxury items doesn’t mean you need to right in a disgusting manner . Did u contact Burberry in a disgusting manner that there are plenty of ppl who cannot afford their clothing so hey should be banned . Hope you got the point . May hashem help that the thief be caught and choco shop restored so we can enjoy their products .
The most kind ne special people out there! I wish there is something we can do to help! I am so saddened.
Wouldn’t he rather rob the bank?
What does he gain with so much cakes?
This takes the cake! I never went to the store, but will go now to give the owner chizzuk and business.
Anyone that is doing better then me is bad, and Hashem must punish them! (This is the vibe i pick up from this town)
Commenters think if you would like to read this comment after this happened to you!!
I believe your insurance policy should cover theft and vandalism.
Hopefully that is the case with your policy too.
