VIDEO & PHOTOS: The Lakewood Police Departments on Friday conducted a water rescue training drill as they prepare for the 2013 boating season.
Under the directive of Deputy Chief Fred Capper, the team – equipped with a jet skit – simulated the rescue of drowning victims, boaters in trouble and other water-related emergencies.
The rescue team, which consists of about half dozen trained scuba divers, will be supported by members of Chaveirim and Lakewood First Aid – who have been trained as support staff for police rescue operations, as earlier reported.
The team is expected to begin operation within the next two weeks.

Give me a break..!!!!!! Do we really need a water rescue team with all that equipment? There are only 3 lakes in lakewood and only one your aloud to swim in the rest are stagnant.we would be better off paying for an extra life guard and having a small power boat available at all times.I hope the equipment was at least donated.
Hope I don’t have to wait for them to show up and get there suits on if I drowning.

Lakewood is becoming a source of readiness, all of Ocean county will soon come to rely on Lakewood for emergency scenarios.

I count more then 3 lakes. Lake Carasaljo, Manetta, Shenandoah, Fishigan, duck pond and beach lake at Ocean County Park, the lake in Pine Park, the lake off Shady Lane Dr, Miller Rd, end of Glen Av. S (Hidden Lake), ponds off Fairways Blvd, Lake Wadill, 6 other lakes in Leisure Village, 4 lakes in Leisure VIllage East, 3 in Four Seasons, 1 at Twin Lakes, 2 lakes and 3 ponds at Woodlake Country Club, retention pond at Cedar Bridge & Oberlin, and then the north and south branches of the Metedeconk River. Yup “Lakewood taxpayer”, you are only “aloud” to swim in one, but cars or golf carts can go in the others, people can fall into them, boats sink, etc.
