  1. Jackson Mayor Responds to Mrs. Icestein’s ‘Ask the Mayor’ Questions: Large Hailstones and a Paucity of Sunshine
Upon seeing the large pieces of hail all over Jackson on Wednesday, local resident, Haley Icestein penned a letter to Jackson Mayor, Michael Reina, asking him whether the township could reduce the size of the hailstones “next time around.”
“I appreciate all the work you do on behalf of the township,” Mrs. Icestein wrote to the Mayor. “But let me tell you, ‘we don’t need such large-sized pieces of hail in this town’.”
“I’ve seen some of the other towns in NJ,” she wrote, “and the size of the hailstones they’ve got there are a lot smaller than what we got in Jackson! It would be far more economical, and and a lot safer, if the township would use smaller-sized pieces of hail.”
Mrs. Icestein then went on to ask the Mayor why the neighborhood she resides in did not receive any hail at all.
“Why were some areas of Jackson rewarded with the hail, while other areas like mine, did not receive any hail at all?” she asked the Mayor. “I pay my taxes like everyone else, and I deserve some of those hailstones like everyone else!”
Mrs. Icestein also complained about the lack of sunshine that she received last summer.
“I noticed that last summer there was far less sunshine entering my windows than in previous years,” she wrote. “If Jackson is running out of sunshine, why can’t the township take out a loan and purchase some additional sunshine supplies?! Mr. Mayor, no township in the world can possibly exist without an ample supply of sunshine! YOU know it, and I know it!”
Mayor Reina replied to Mrs. Icestein in a response letter as follows:
“Mrs. Icestein, I appreciate your kind words.
With regards to the large-sized pieces of hail and the lack of sunshine entering your windows, please understand that these particular issues, and decisions, are not within jurisdiction of the township. They are decided by the heavenly courts, and only the heavenly courts can decide what size hailstones you receive, or the amount of hailstones and sunshine, that a particular township, or neighborhood, receives. However, I will put in a formal request to the heavenly courts and see if we can get some more sunshine inside your windows, and some hail in YOUR neighborhood, and some smaller-sized hailstones in general. I’m happy that I was able to respond to your questions in matters pertaining to both hot and cold issues. Mrs. Icestein, thanks again for your kind words.
    Sincerely yours
    Jackson Mayor Michael Reina
