Exploring The Milky Way
Is Milchigs Better?
One of the more common assumptions people mistakenly make, is that dairy products are easier to certify than meat. How many times have you heard someone say “I’ll just have the breakfast at this establishment. Their hechsher isn’t the greatest, but it’s just milchigs. What can be the problem?” Let’s listen in to Rabbi Sholem Fishbane, Kashrus administrator at the cRc, and Executive Director of AKO, as he clarifies this common misconception.

Let’s Talk Kashrus, Exploring The Milky Way
When asked whether the Milky Way truly needs a hechsher, Kashrus expert, Aryeh Starfeld, told reporters on Thursday that, “The Milky Way, and most other galaxies, are all under the supervision of the Star-K. Hence, no additional hechsher is required.”
“The Star-K is light years ahead of all the other kashrus agencies when it comes to galaxy hashgachas,” he added.
Milchik doesn’t risk chayvei krisos, like cheilev. Also, unless you’re worried about horse or camel milk, the milk issurim are all derabanan, even if they use kieva as a maamid. So, too, insects. No frum person would trivialize the issurim that are involved; but no rational person would equate the risk of a painful wound with a risk to life.
