Following an incident yesterday evening, a Lakewood Hatzolah member is once again urging parents to ensure they properly make use of the safety lock features on windows.
“Many times, families move from basements to a two-story home, and the children aren’t used to it,” explained the member. “It’s exciting for them.”
“Most new standard windows comes with a built-in safety lock which won’t allow you to open the window more than a couple of inches, but parents aren’t event aware of it. It’s a simple thing to use, and it can save your child’s life.”
See a video demonstration below.
And how do you make sure kids won’t simply flip the lower part of window open by unblocking the side latches that click into window frame?
The window latch is high up on the window. Kids won’t be able to reach and it’s not so easy to unlatch. You must be thinking that it’s low down. But no the latch is high up and out of reach. Thank you to Hatzoloh for helping others everyday.
the window locks pictured don’t really work well… I have seen many such types crack very easily. People should be aware.
