Reader-submitted: Hi, Last week a minivan ran a bus’ red light on James at 9 am (video time is DST) while my kids were starting to cross the street.
Unfortunately the dash cam videos (from my wife’s car and from the bus) weren’t able to capture the plates. I filed a police report but without the plates they can’t really do much.
You can post this. Lakewood drivers need to start paying attention! I just hope a child doesn’t need to get seriously injured before the police crack down.
In NY, busses will stop diagonally and block the oncoming lane. For some reason in Lakewood the police don’t allow this – this law needs to change! Perhaps you can give me a lead of whom to talk to about this?
Please don’t post identifying details (name etc); I blurred out the faces on the video.
Thanks,
(TLS welcomes your letters by submitting them to [email protected])
The same happen in hearthstone Dr and North Dr , drivers don’t respect anything somebody have to do something .
I had a very frightening moment last night, and I’m very shaken up from it. I want to share it to raise awareness. I was turning into a cul-de-sac last night in the dark and rain and a young boy on a low down bike ( I believe it’s called a dirt bike) whizzed right in front of me. I did not see him until after, b”h it is nissim that I hadn’t hit him. To drivers: ( including me) please be extra careful and look twice before making that turn. To parents : please make sure your children are wearing reflectors and that they know proper road safety. And some the bikes and toys kids are playing with in the street these days are extremely low down and dangerous.
An issue though is how some busses drive for blocks with their lights already flashing and it is impossible to know when it is for real.
That doesn’t excuse going through a red flashing stop sign. Flashing yellow lights just mean to be careful; I have yet to see a bus drive “for blocks” with their red lights on.
Maybe you haven’t, but I have seen busses drive almost the entire 14th st with their red lights flashing. There was no way of knowing when to actually stop
FYI you have to stop before the stop sign by the big white line
Bus drivers have to stop for more than 2 seconds before opening the door to give time for cars to stop. This happens all the time. At 30 MPH it takes a car about 5 seconds to stop in dry conditions, even longer in wet condition, plus drivers need time to react. Bus drivers have to stop then give enough time for cas to stop then let off the children.
This driver didn’t even attempt to slow down. They maintained their speed through the flashing red stop sign.
Was leaving shul this week and some body else leaving shul must have been in a very big hurry to go right past a school bus picking up children with a stop sign and flashing red lights on the corner of lanes mill rd and long beach. Some people just never learn. Also why are people doing 60-65 mph on a residential street?
If I had to upload every illegal and dangerous situation from my dashcam, I would have no time to do anything else.

All day everyday this happens in Lakewood. What will it take for drivers to hold a child’s life as precious?
If a kid gets off a bus and is crossing or being picked up from other side the busses need to go diagonal and block the road. The flashing lights don’t help anymore. It was like this way back when in Brooklyn till finally they did this.
Problem is, it’s not legal to do this here.
it was pitch dark on south lake drive when a teenager appeared before my car looking for a hitch. instead of offering him a ride, i handed him a rfeflecor belt. ‘i dont need this ‘, he said. ‘oh, yes. you do; i almost didnt see you,’ i responded, and i drove off wth him standing on the side of the rode, looking at the belt with a puzzled look on his face
Please don’t forget that we need to respect the safety of people in other vehicles as well. Stop blowing through red lights, stop signs, driving in the wrong direction of a one way street and please stop driving through work zones and disregarding the safety of utilities crews working in the road!!! Rules are the same across all of America. Why does Lakewood feel that the rules don’t apply to them? Lack of common sense and lack of respect for others is mind boggling.
