A coyote was again spotted in Lakewood on Monday – making its second appearance in one week.
The animal, though a baby, and possibly the same one, was spotted on East Kennedy Boulevard, which is just several blocks from where it appeared last week.
NJ’s Division of Fish and Wildlife offers the following guidelines to help reduce the likelihood of conflicts with coyotes:
•Never feed a coyote. Deliberately feeding coyotes puts pets and other residents in the neighborhood at risk.
•Feeding pet cats and/or feral (wild) cats outdoors can attract coyotes. The coyotes feed on the pet food and also prey upon the cats.
•Put garbage in tightly closed containers that cannot be tipped over.
•Remove sources of water, especially in dry climates.
•Bring pets in at night.
•Put away bird feeders at night to avoid attracting rodents and other coyote prey.
•Provide secure enclosures for rabbits, poultry, and other farm animals.
•Pick up fallen fruit and cover compost piles.
•Although extremely rare, coyotes have been known to attack humans. Parents should monitor their children, even in familiar surroundings, such as backyards.
•Install motion-sensitive lighting around the house.
•Clear brush and dense weeds from around dwellings – this reduces protective cover for coyotes and makes the area less attractive to rodents and rabbits. Coyotes, as well as other predators, are attracted to areas where rodents are concentrated like woodpiles.
•If coyotes are present, make sure they know they’re not welcome. Make loud noises, blast a canned air siren, throw rocks, or spray them with a garden hose.
[TLS. Thank you J.E.]
I saw it on Sunday by lucerne and davos place in Brookhill.
Wow. Thanx for the tip. I’m gonna go grab my canned air siren & not let it out of my sight.
Any one knows of a canned air siren gemach till all this blows over(pun intended) it’s a hugh mitzvah since many of us are on a tight budget and have to outfit our entire large family with siren and refills for close calls and false alarms…….
Get rid of it, are we waiting for something to happen?
Last Week my kids went horseback riding in Jackson in broad daylight – while we were there it must have been a coyote that came & attacked a baby goat! We walked into the barn & it was lying in a pool of blood! The owners had been in that room just moments before.
Small children should NOT be left outside even for a second!
Coyotes or not each child should have at least one parent accompanying them at ALL times, you can never be too careful(till you lose your own mind and then become a danger to your own child)
This is how bubehs make maases note insider says probably a coyote, why probably? Did you see it? It’s because it’s in the news could of been a cat a raccoon or a fox but no it was prob a coyote……
hope it doesnt get rattled by the helicopter
Coyotes aren’t only a danger to very small children, I was chased by one when I was 13, I was able to make it inside a building
MRS BUBAH. its real and its a danger. i live in brookhill and my reliable neighbor told me that he saw it.
its crazy that it hasn’t been arrested yet 😉
