VIDEO: Congressman Chris Smith (NJ-04), who was in Lakewood on Friday to meet with the Board Of Education, says he will be holding an exclusive hearing on Capitol Hill in the coming days in hopes of securing Jacob Ostreicher’s release from prison.
“When I heard about Jacob Ostreicher, I was moved, deeply”, Congressman Smith tells TLS. “And I decided there needed to be some additional congressional focus on his unjust incarceration in Bolivia.”
Ostreicher has been incarcerated without any charges against him, for almost a year. He has shed dozens of pound in the recent weeks since going on a hunger strike and his health has deteriorated, Smith says.
“I do believe that if we put a huge push and bring light and scrutiny to this human rights abuse of an American citizen, Jacob will be free.”
The White House petition filed on his behalf, has reached the necessary 25,000 votes. TLS.
