Verizon Wireless, in an effort to accommodate Lakewood area residents, has reached out to TLS about a special offer for those wishing to stick with the basic phones.
In October, in response to a petition, Verizon Wireless told TLS, “We are actively working with our customers to help ensure any transition needs are addressed as early as possible. The best experience for customers is on a 4G device. We offer 4G flip phones. As we continue to invest in our networks, including more than $5.4 billion in New Jersey since 2015, our spending is focused on 4G and laying the groundwork for 5G.”
The company says they have rolled out a $0/month basic phones for customers.
“I wanted to provide an update on our efforts to provide the best experience for our customers in and around Lakewood,” David Weissman wrote.
“The best experience for our customers is on a 4G device. For a limited time, customers eligible for an upgrade can get LG Exalt or Kyocera Cadence 4G LTE basic phones for as low as $0/month.”

Many people’s issue is the lack of a qwerty keyboard on all of Verizon’s 4g flip phones. How does this address that problem?
Can someone actually explain what the special is?
Is the Phone $0/month or the plan $0/month, there is a big difference between the two.
Just spoke to them. The phone plan stays te same you can upgrade to a new phone for free
do we know how much longer my 3g phone will work?
are they offering any QWERTY phones?
These 4g flip phones HAVE internet on them!
You used the internet to write this comment.
If they don’t have phones with a qwerty keyboard I’m gonna be finding a new service when they pull the plug on 3g. Free phone without a qwerty is just pointless.
If they have internet go to tag they will block it! We got a phone for the kids from Verizon and tag had no problems blocking internet on it
the fact that you responding to this post means you have access to Internet you may as well get a smartphone filter= qwerty keyboard
We may want phone for children or babysitter…
If your using a flip phone, lack of qwerty should not bother you. Cmon
These phones have T9word which can be even faster than a Qwerty keyboard once you get used to it
do you need to use an upgrade for this? if so does it have to be from a 3g phone or any phone?
The problem is that I among MANY OTHERS in lkwd use prepaid plans such as red pocket who won’t get this free phone
Please note: I’m pretty sure the Kyocera CANNOT be blocked effectively by TAG. Check with them…
Verizon is not addressing the problem of poor service to the Lakewood community. You would think that a town the size of Lakewood would have great service. On most days my cell phone only shows one or two bars of reception. The people that I call often complain that there is poor call quality, and my calls keep breaking up so they cannot hear what I am saying. As I am writing this, I went from 1 bar to 2 bars of service. It then jumped up to 3 bars— and then back down to 1 bar On most days, I only get 1 bar of service on my phone. We should be getting a full 5 bars of service for our area with the population that we have. Verizon has to solve this problem for the rates that we pay. We are paying big bucks for poor service.
Thanks to everyone (over 800 people) who complained to the FCC!! We finally got verizon to do something!
