Governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio welcomed the USNS Comfort hospital ship to New York City today. The ship, which has over 1,000 hospital beds onboard, will assist with treating non-coronavirus patients so that New York’s hospitals can focus on fighting the ongoing pandemic.

In a statement, Governor Cuomo said, “We knew from the onset that expanded hospital capacity was critical. We asked and the federal government answered. This ship is a step forward in our fight against coronavirus.”
