The U.S. Senate narrowly passed the reconciliation bill containing sweeping tax credits and spending cuts, sending it back to the House of Representatives for another vote.
The massive bill, which passed by a 51-50 vote, with Vice President J.D. Vance breaking the tie, also includes a permanent and unlimited scholarship tax credit.
The groundbreaking federal school choice proposal, which has been advocated strongly for by Agudath Israel of America, survived two attempts to eliminate it and had to be revised in order to comply with the ruling of the Senate parliamentarian.
The bill provides a dollar-for-dollar tax credit to donors who contribute to a nonprofit scholarship granting organization (SGO). The SGOs then take the pooled funds and distribute scholarships to eligible students for qualified educational expenses. The beneficiaries can include most families as the income threshold is above $300,000 in many areas. In Ocean County, that would be just over $410,000 annually.
The revised version allows every taxpayer to receive a credit of up to $1700 and removed the annual cap on donations among other changes. Agudah expects that this will help generate hundreds of millions of dollars in K-12 scholarships for those wishing to attend Jewish schools.
The bill, officially called the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” also extends the tax cuts enacted by the president during his first term in 2017; boosts funding for border, deportation, and national defense priorities; removes taxes on tips and overtime hours and imposes some reforms on Medicaid and raises the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, a priority for Republicans from blue states like New Jersey.

A governor could opt out of school choice which is what every Democrat gov will do so you must vote for jack
They have no reason to opt out of free money; it’s not costing the states anything.
the reason to opt out is if they want the public schools not to fail. and the democrats who are beholden to the teachers unions don’t want the public schools to fail.
Let’s rephrase that. The Public schools are atotal failure, in particular for the inner city types. The democrats, because they are beholden to the UFT, don’t want those who will be able to afford private education with the tax breaks to switch to private school.
I was trying to be a bit more polite.
It’s costing them the ability to raise your taxes so they can throw more money down the wasted drain of public education.
is it $1700 per kid or per family?
Probably per family, Also only for income elligible.
Tuition is about top go up with at least 1,700.00. Schools NEVER give parents a break, it’s always their money, just like section 8.
One Small Ugly Bill Still Waiting For Senate Approval
The Aforementioned Bill Accuses Trump and Senate Republicans of Applying Double Standard “Towards the Smaller and Less Beautiful Things in Life”
An allegedly small and ugly bill that has been waiting for senate approval since January is accusing the Trump administration and Senate Republicans of applying a double standard towards, “The smaller and less beautiful things in life.”
“The senate just passed the President’s so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ on Monday,” the small and ugly bill told reporters today. “Meanwhile, smaller and uglier bills like me, are still sitting on the desks of the President and senate Republicans waiting for some degree of approval, acceptance or acknowledgement.”
“It’s clearly a double standard, and a form of prejudice,” the small and ugly bill said, “I mean, I may not be the best-looking bill on the block, but one thing I can tell you, ‘I’m jam packed with some of the most beautiful provisions and gorgeous mandates that Life has to offer!”
“Besides,” the small and ugly bill went on to say, “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. In fact, a senior member of the senate told me just yesterday that I’m one of the best-looking bills he’s ever seen. The senator conceded that I can probably use a few makeovers here and there with regards to some of my provisions, but other than that, he insisted that the sky is the limit with regards to how much beauty I can obtain.”
However, the White House issued a statement later in the day refuting the ‘small’ bill’s claims, and insisting that, “President Trump appreciates the fine qualities of ALL of the bills that have been placed on his desk.”
“In fact, the President sees the exquisite beauty in ALL of Life’s bills – small and big ones alike,” the statement went on to say. “And Mr. Trump has never shown disrespect to ANY bill whatsoever, regardless of the bill’s size, looks or status.”
“The President seeks to work with all of America’s bills,” the statement concluded, “to fulfill the bills’ needs, advance the bills’ mandates and provisions, and to give the bills the perfect makeovers that will make them look as Beautiful as a bill can be!”
