The Lakewood Police Department is investigating the alleged attempted kidnapping that occurred over Shabbos.
Lakewood Police Captain Greg Staffordsmtih says that on February 9th, at approximately 9:20 pm, Officer Joseph Rusk responded to a home to investigate an the attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy that occurred earlier that day.
“According to the report taken by Officer Rusk, the 10-year-old was walking along Chateau Drive when the driver of white cargo van ran up and grabbed him by his shoulders and started to shake him from side to side,” Staffordsmith said. “The boy stated that he was able to break free and run away.”
“Exact details regarding the circumstances surrounding the event are still being sought,” Staffordsmith said. “Further investigation conducted by Officer Michael Dennis Jr. revealed that the operator of the white van was in fact a delivery driver who was dropping off a package. Investigators are currently working to identify the courier service in order to locate and speak with the driver. Although we do not believe the drivers intention was to abduct the young boy, we would like to speak with him to determine exactly what happened.”
