UPDATE On Brookhill Boy

Boy in the Field_wmAs reported here on TLS, a follow-up meeting with Rabbonim took place in Brookhill following a plan to stand in solidarity with a local Brookhill boy who has not yet been accepted into school. As of now, Local Askanim are working with the Roshei Hayeshiva Reb Malkiel and Reb Dovid Shlita to come up with a solution. TLS will continue to monitor the situation and bring you any further updates as we receive them.

  1. Maybe there is nothing you can do physically, however you definately can say a Kapittel tehilim for the boy. Also by TLS keeping the story on the front burner the pressure remains on those that can do something to work non stop till a solution is found.

  2. Why is this the business of the entire tzibur. There is nothing I can do about this situation and the same is true of most of the readers

why? because you have obviously not been in such a situation ,maybe you can say one kapittel tehillim for someone else going through a very tough time

  3. I feel like posting a real image of the adorable kid. Maybe then it would speak to the hearts of the mosdos and Rabbanim involved. This issue will get resolved, but if there is no guarantee that there is a korbon next year, what did we accomplish? Thank you to all the askanim for your work on their behalf.

  4. This seems to be partially a result of applying to only one school. There is no reason that any school should be forced to take the child just because they didn’t apply elsewhere. Other schools can’t be blamed for asking why they should add to their already overcrowded classes for a child who didn’t even apply. I am sure there is a non-chassidishe school that will take him, even though that wouldn’t be the first choice of the parents. This is the way they played their cards to get into a specific school and they lost. A large portion of elementary school problems are caused by parents insistent upon a specific school.

  5. If I want to go to a certain school and apply there and they do not want me for whatever reason they should let you know immediately, not when it is too late to find another option. The schools play with our kids. I had a similar situation with my child. Had the school told me immediately I would not have been stuck, and would of happily persued other options, yet the school let me know Erev the first day of school that my child was persona non grata and that was after telling me for months that we will have a spot for you.

  6. A large portion of elementary school problems are caused by parents insistent upon a specific school OR are a large portion of elementry school problems caused by schools insistent upon specific parents?

  7. I was in a situation 2 years ago. We were told by one school that we were accepted, but it wouldn’t be “official” until issues with other kids were worked out. No need to apply to another school. Guess what? In the end were rejected and only got into another (new) school after the year started.

  8. Maybe there is nothing you can do physically, however you definately can say a Kapittel tehilim for the boy.

You are absolutly correct. And I would encourage TLS to start a tehillim list where everyone can list the names of all those who need refuos and yeshuos. But this is not a tehillim post, it’s a news story, and as such, I think my original comment still stands. I am sure that those that can do something about this situation have been contacted. But for everyone else – the vast majority of the TLS readers – it’s just hock.

  9. I gave 2 reasons one of which you conveniently did not respond to.

Regarding the assertion that this is just hock, I as a parent who has gone through this, and did not have TLS post it as it predated them, think this is a critical news story, and from most of the comments it seems that you are in the minority. Last year I also ran around with a fellow Mispallel and spent many days until his child was placed. This is a Shande for the Lakewood community that children who his parents want him to go to a Yeshiva is rejected. You might want to bury your head in the sand and say I can not do anything, if it was your child what would you do?????

  10. I gave 2 reasons one of which you conveniently did not respond to.

I alluded to your second reason in my comment. I said “I am sure that those that can do something about this situation have been contacted.”. The rest of your comment is an emotional appeal but nevertheless off point. While b”h I have not had to deal with this, I do have friends and family members who have gone through not knowing where their children will be going to school up to a few days before school started. Where I was able to help out through a contact or otherwise, I did. My head is not at all in the sand. The problem is very real and it’s a busha to all of us Lakewood residents that this goes on every single year and we are not able to put a stop to it. But I still believe that posting a specific story for the whole town to read is nothing more than hock. Anyone who can help them is already involved. I don’t accept the tayna that without TLS posting this, all those involved would just forget about this kid.

  11. i know the situation personally and am sick of peoples uncalled for comments. no, the father is not sick cause of the child. the father got sick on rosh hashana and needs a big refuah. it only complicates the matter since the wife has to be by his side and she cant stand and fight for a yeshiva now which she and her husband have been doing until now. and for saying they only applied to one yeshiva its not true. its just a ego issue going on btwn yeshivas and everyone is pointing to next one to take him in. i think it has been going on long enough and its time to end. this boy is so tramatized already about not being in cheder and now with his father in the hospital it only makes it worse. for everyone who is involved its time to put a end to this charade and in these days btwn rosh hashana and yom kippur finish this up

  12. Which yidishe school are you referring to ? The one choshiveh school that everybody knows would have accepted this yingele had he applied there ? Or a different one ?

  13. IN my experience with these issues and with blogs in general I would advise people reading this article and its resulting comments with a big huge grain of salt. Nothing is ever as it is portrayed. and nobody really knows what is the real truth. Whether the akshonis is on the part of the parents or the schools, we will never really know. SO dont jump to quick conclusions about who is to blame.
I hope this child goes to school quickly and his father gets better quickly. A little more Ahavas Chinam is in order, and not the other way around.

  14. The boy is still out !!! may caz the father and mother is not around to pressure so we as klal yisroel have to call the vad and rosh hayesivas lhavdil by the goyim they preasure their concilman and comityman till till the issue gets resolved and TLS SHOULD STILL RUNN AN UPDATE TO WHN AND WERE THE BOY WILL BE IT WILL PUT ALOT OF PRESSURE AFTER ALL THE WHOLE LKWD READS IT !! hatlaca and bisiris tova and refua shlama for the father and strenth for the family omen
