UPDATE: Jackson Tables Eruv Resolution After Opposition | G. Sonnenfeld

The ill-advised township-wide eruv resolution was tabled after just an hour of consideration, after Council members had no answers for residents who opposed the resolution.

Multiple Jackson residents asked the Council members why they were considering passing a resolution when the population supposedly being helped by the resolution – Orthodox Jews – weren’t even in favor of it. Sources say the overwhelmingly negative response to the eruv resolution forced officials to pull it from the agenda, pending further review.

A legal analyst told TLS that the proposing and subsequent tabling of the resolution may spell yet more legal trouble for Jackson.

Embroiled in two ongoing religious discrimination lawsuits, Jackson Township was desperate to do something which showed that they are supportive of their local Jewish residents. With the tabling of the resolution, Jackson has failed to make even a show of support. This could make their legal position, already precarious, even more untenable.

    • It was a publicized meeting and open to the public yet where was someone to comment from the users of an Eruv. Surprised you ignored a chance to complain.
