The funeral for Captain Joe Goertz will be taking place Friday in Lakewood.

The casket will leave D’Elia’s Funeral home Friday morning and be escorted by police to Ocean Lanes for a brief private event.

After the brief stop, police will escort the casket to the Lakewood Police Headquarters on 3rd Street and arrive approximately 10:00 AM. A short prayer will be held there before police escort the casket to the Blue Claws Stadium.

At approximately 10:30 AM, the casket will arrive at Blue Claws, where a public viewing and funeral service will be held. The services will conclude approximately 2:15 PM, after which the casket will be brought to St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River for burial.

Captain Goertz died suddenly at his home earlier this week.
