So who visited my Facebook profile?, who unfriended me from the Facebook Friend list?, who saw my Facebook posts?, Facebook won’t tell you by default.
So what can you do? Most Facebook users try to find third-party software that will do it for you with a single click. Leaving no stone unturned hackers have started to use this weakness in Facebook and have designed malicious programs to victimize the broad Facebook audience of users wanting to know.
Enter UnfriendAlert, a free app that notifies you whenever someone removes you from the Facebook friend list. UnfriendAlert is very unfriendly app that has been found collecting users’ Facebook credentials. It’s not just unfriendly it’s downright fiendish.
Security researchers at Malwarebytes have warned that users of the Unfriend Alert app asks users to login with their Facebook credentials to activate Unfriend’s monitoring and alert service for your Facebook profile.
Facebook has provides the nuts and bolts and tools of their authenticated login system for use by authorized third party applications so users don’t need to provide their Facebook credentials to them. So you should never ever have to submit your Facebook password to any third party service or desktop software ever.
That’s not the case with UnfriendAlert. Once you enter your login credentials, UnfriendAlert will send it to the website “yougotunfriended.com” which is owned by very unfriendly and downright hostile attackers.
Typical of Malware sites, UnfriendAlert will display bogus advertisements that deceptively install other malicious software and show free apps that when visiting those and other links on their web pages in your Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer, the browsers essentially allow and not block them.
Uninstall UnfriendAlert and Change your Facebook Password ASAP!
If you are using UnfriendAlert, or any other app or site that asks you for your Facebook credentials, uninstall it from your computer real quick and change your Facebook password as soon as possible. You can easily do this in Facebook by clicking on “Settings —> Password —> Edit.”
It pays big-time to do some research before installing any third party utilities because many of them, while promising some friendly companionship for your social media and general computer health can compromise your online security and privacy in the most unfriendly ways.
