Two separate pedestrian-struck incidents occurred in Lakewood this evening. Both happened shortly after 6:00 PM.
The first incident occurred in the area of River Avenue, where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.
A second, separate pedestrian-struck incident occurred in the area of Park Avenue. Injuries were reportedly not serious.
May they all have a speedy recovery! On that note maybe The Lakewood Scoop can post the following as a letter, not just a comment. Dear Drivers; I am a bochur and to get to yeshiva everyday, I bike. I have a regular bike that’s not electric, I wear a helmet, have lights on my bike for the night, and try to follow all the traffic rules. Even so I am close to getting hit by cars a few times a day. First thing is; when I’m biking on the sidewalk I keep on honking my loud horn but no one moves aside, so I go on the street and then cars honk at me even though I belong in the street, and there’s not really big enough shoulders. Where am I supposed to go? The second thing is that people fly through stop signs and they don’t even realize it They don’t realize that a stop sign is not just a suggestion that you may stop wherever you want. There’s a white line on the road and that’s meant to show you where to stop. The crosswalk is not where you’re supposed to stop by. I start crossing the street because I know there’s a stop sign at the corner and I’m going on the crosswalk and suddenly a car comes flying right at me! So now I have to squeeze my brakes, and I can’t just afterwards push a gas pedal to restart. Now I have to start pedaling all over again and it takes up more energy all because of you. Please be considerate of others and stop by the line that’s meant for you. If you want afterwards to go and stick out a little bit to see if cars are coming, then fine but don’t just come flying over the crosswalk. Thank you.

yes, stop signs is very important. If you’re aware of extra challenge at some corners, to talk to rabbanim and askanim about it. Mabe someone should stand there with a camera, it’ll stop in two minutes.
(But don’t do it yourself without talking it over with knowledgeable people, as there are some crazy people in this world who might take picts of you and post it with crazy lines.)
I have an ebike and to be honest it’s not so safe as there are constant decisions and can be close. But I am actually very supprised to see that littery all drivers try their best to be safe and it’s the bike riders that are trying to go fast that may be a problem. I ride slower than I can just to be safe I try to stop at road crossings and driveways and stop signs. In Israel a bike rider has to follow all road rules.

I was driving down New Hampshire last week and saw a young man in a scooter. At first there seemed to be a sort of bike lane, but then the area next to the white line became very narrow.
So he was literally inches from the cars that might have been travelling quite fast.
I wanted to roll down my window and say, “Can I please have your name, so I can daven that you escape injury? And can I buy you a helmet?”
In case you know this young man, please pass on the message. Really, people need to be more aware of the dangers!
