Two Lakewood Residents Receiving Kidney Donations Today; Tefillos Requested

Two kidney transplants are taking place today at Hackensack University Medical Center – with both recipients members of the Lakewood community.

In the first transplant, Isachar Dov, 65, of Lakewood, is receiving a kidney from Eli, 35, a father of five from New City, NY. Eli had been thinking about kidney donation for years, and several of his friends had already donated – but it was a flyer shared by another friend that finally prompted him to make the call. His wife gave her full support.

In the second, a Lakewood mother is receiving a kidney from Rabbi Zev, 59, a longtime teacher from Dallas, Texas. Rabbi Zev swabbed at a Renewal event in Dallas two years ago.

Two donors from different states. Two recipients from the same community. Four lives forever connected.

Please say Tehillim for their successful surgeries and complete refuos sheleimos:

Transplant #1
Donor: Eliyahu ben Itta Shaindel – אליהו בן איטא שיינדל
Recipient: Yisacher Dov ben Baila – יששכר דוב בן בילא

Transplant #2
Donor: Zev Shamay ben Fraidel Rachel – זאב שמאי בן פריידל רחל
Recipient: Fraidel bat Golda – פריידל בת גולדה

The transplants have been dedicated in loving memory of an icon of the Sephardic community, Al Gindi – Avraham Nissim ben Esther a”h – a man who paved the road of consistency and success for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to follow.

wearing a universal halachically accepted hair covering is a huge zechus, even if it is only worn during the scheduled time of the actual surgery

Keeping quiet is also a zechus. Please stop trying to promote your agenda in every comment section where it doesn’t fit in.
But rest assured, those involved in the transplant will not be wearing shaitels at the time of surgery.

Please stop with your agenda. It’s out of place and out of control.

Just curious, what does it mean to have a transplant “dedicated” ? I thought you dont need to pay for a transplant ? Why would anything be dedicated? What are they paying money for? Aren’t the refferal organizations services free? Do they charge for their services? Don’t understand what it means…

What does it mean to “dedicate” the transplant?

There’s alot involved in addition to the actual transplant. There’s all the testing, swabbing, There’s alot of staff working to help facilitate the transplants and supporting the donors pre, during testing and during/post surgery too… ita alot and that has to be funded.

I thought the people in the organizations are volunteers? They’re all paid workers?

Correct! I just donated my kidney a few months ago. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes..testing,support,help that makes donating possible… obviously you don’t get a cent from donating.
And yes if anyone wants to do it..
Call Renewel for a swab kit
I can only give one 😉

Everybody,
As a kidney recipient of about 5 years, I encourage everybody who can, to donate!
Someone without kidney function has started the slow path of total body decline i.e. death. By donating a kidney, you are LITERALLY saving a life.
Please, if you’re on the fence, do it.
