Starting January 1, 2018, all normal trash (green can) and recycling (yellow can) pickups for Thursday and Friday will be collected the day before. So if the normal pickup day was Thursday, it is now Wednesday. If your normal pickup day was Friday, it is now Thursday.
Starting January 1, 2018, the bulk trash pickup day will be Friday (not Wednesdays), every week according to your zone*. Bulk trash are items, such as brush, metal, leaves, e-waste, and sanitation bulk. All residents must call the DPW for an appointment at 732-905-3405 to have bulk trash picked up. Remember, bulk trash is only collected once a month in your zone so if a holiday occurs on your bulk trash pickup week, you will have to wait until the next month.
Besides calling for an appointment to pick up bulk trash, residents can also schedule a pickup at http://lakewood.mobile311.com, which they can save as an icon to make it an app. Although the app is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the DPW is open Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., exclusive of holidays. All requests, however, will be viewed the next business day.

Is there anyway the can ensure that bulk pick up is picked up the day its scheduled for?
Whenever I schedule bulk pick up, my stuff end up sitting on the curb for 3 weeks till they come. In fact at times, they will come to my neighbor but not me. Since the objects are bulk they get on everyone’s way and its a safety hazard for children playing outside.
I understand that the public works is overworked and understaffed. I”d prefer if they divdied the zones into 8 resulting in only a once in two month’s pick up but it would come on time.
I have only called for bulk pick up twice, but both times the DPW operator was polite and efficient, and my pick up was on done on time, as scheduled. I could not be happier with this service!
A bigger issue is the leaf pick up at least that should be divided into zones a full month for the leaves to maybe get picked up is kind of ridiculous… that’s usually late too!!
Neighbor: I would rather my items sit out for an extra day than have pickup once in two months. Actually, with a town this size, it should come more often! Imagine having couches, rugs and furniture sitting at the side of your house for two months? Ugh!
They tell you to put the bulk trash out the night before. Well, if pick up would be on Mon. it would be easier because who has time on Thurs. to put stuff out?
Also, sometimes they forget to pick up my regular garbage on the regular pick up day. My regular pick up day is Mon. Last week they forgot my side of the street. So I shlepped my full bin back to it’s place, Then they suddenly appeared 2 days later on Wed.! So my trash wasn’t out in the street any more to be picked up.
I think practicality speaking the new schedule will take effect the week of Jan 8 as the 1st is a Monday, so everybody will be pushed back a day keeping zone 3 and 4 Thursday and Friday like it’s been till now.
The leaf pickup schedule is ludicrous. Especially when neighbors wake up AFTER the trucks have gone. By the way, has anyone spotted that new vacuum cleaner type truck that the Township was touting? Only vacuum I have seen was the one held in my house by my reliable cleaning help, Maria.
I have not seen any leaf pickup truck on my street all season. just piles and piles of leaves all over.
2 summers ago someone dumped a mattress near my home. It was sitting there, becoming a hazard. I called the dept of public works & the next day it was picked up! Thank you, DPW!
This is ridiculous. Why is bulk pickup only once a month? Lkwd isn’t a small town anymore.
Also, what zone is Arlington?
How are people supposed to know about the DPW schedule changes? Do they publicize in any official way?
RE leaf pickup… yes, Lakewood is insane when it comes to that. The leaves are on the streets taking away parking places and they become quite hazardous when they get wet and slippery.
The developers will be taking away all the trees in Lakewood so there will not be any any problems with leaves anymore.
Can we verify what Mo wrote. Is there trash and recycle pickup tomorrow,Wednesday, instead of Thursday or do we start that next week?
