Jackson Township officials are alerting residents that the intersection of North Hope Chapel Road and New Central Avenue will be partially closed for approximately three weeks beginning Monday, October 26, as part of an Ocean County road improvement project funded by the federal government.
The project will require a series of temporary road closures and detours as crews complete the intersection improvements, with sections of the roadway expected to reopen as construction progresses.
The following detours and closures will be in effect:
North Hope Chapel Road southbound: Traffic will be detoured onto New Central Avenue and directed toward South Cooks Bridge Road.
North Hope Chapel Road northbound: The road will be closed at South Cooks Bridge Road, with traffic detoured toward Brewers Bridge Road.
New Central Avenue southbound: The road will be closed at South Cooks Bridge Road. Access to Izak Court will be maintained.
New Central Avenue northbound: The road will be closed at Hillside Boulevard, with traffic detoured toward Miller Avenue.
School buses will continue to have access to the entrance and exit points along North Hope Chapel Road, but they must access the area from South Cooks Bridge Road.
Police officers will be on location 24 hours a day throughout the closure. Emergency vehicles will retain access to properties within the construction area but are asked to avoid traveling through the affected intersection when possible. Once the first section of the intersection opens, anticipated approximately 7 to 10 days after construction begins, emergency vehicles will be able to travel through the intersection.
Township officials say completing this next phase without a full road closure could extend construction from weeks to several months, and that the temporary closure will allow crews to complete the necessary improvements more efficiently and minimize the overall duration of construction.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, follow posted detours, and use alternate routes whenever possible.
The notice was issued by Mayor Jennifer Kuhn’s office in coordination with the Jackson Township Traffic Safety Bureau, which says it will continue to share updates as individual sections of the roadway reopen and construction progresses.
