Toms River Teen Arrested after Firing Gun into Home

A Toms River teen is in custody after firing a gun into a Toms River home today.

At approximately 10:47AM multiple Toms River Police officers were dispatched to a call for service on Oxford Street in reference to a verbal dispute involving a handgun.

The victim advised police that a male came to his residence and brandished a handgun after banging on the front door. The male then went around to the back door and the victim heard a loud bang, ran upstairs, and called police. Arriving officers located what appeared to be a bullet hole in the rear storm door of the residence. Further investigation revealed that a bullet had penetrated the storm door, entered, and lodged into a downstairs door of the residence and the shell casing was located on the back patio.

The victim advised he was familiar with the male who was identified as Asheer Johnson, 18 from Toms River. Another resident on Irving Place contacted police and reported he was threatened with a handgun by a male fitting the same description. Officers responded to Johnson’s residence where he was located and arrested without incident. An unregistered firearm was recovered and seized.

Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI and Toms River Detectives assisted in the investigation. Asheer Johnson is currently being held on the following charges: Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes, Aggravated Assault and Possession of Hollow Point Bullets.
