Toms River Police Chief Guy Maire to Retire After 35 Years of Service

Toms River Police Chief Guy Maire is set to retire in January, bringing an end to a distinguished 35 year career in law enforcement and dedicated service to the residents of Toms River.

Mayor Daniel Rodrick expressed his appreciation for Toms River Police Chief Guy Maire following the announcement of his upcoming retirement, stating, “I am personally grateful for his service, his leadership, and the tremendous contributions he has made to our police department.”

Throughout his career, Maire has served the township in various capacities, working his way through the ranks before assuming leadership of the police department.

His retirement comes at a time when the Toms River Police Department continues to face staffing shortages, an ongoing concern as the township works to maintain adequate police coverage and meet the demands of a growing community.

Despite efforts to rebuild the department’s ranks, staffing remains an important issue as the department faces increasing calls for service and growing demands on its officers.

During his tenure in department leadership, Maire has overseen police operations, personnel, and public safety initiatives serving one of Ocean County’s largest municipalities.

Maire also played a role in addressing homeless encampments throughout the township, coordinating efforts to clear affected areas and connect displaced individuals with housing resources.

After 35 years of service, Maire has reached the maximum pension service credit available to him, according to the township’s retirement announcement.

His departure marks a significant transition for the Toms River Police Department, which will face the challenge of selecting new leadership while continuing to address staffing needs and maintain public safety services.

As Chief Guy Maire prepares to close this chapter of his career, his 35 years of dedication and service to the residents of Toms River deserve recognition and appreciation.
