Lakewood will begin celebrating Labor Day, a day dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers, with a Municipal Band concert and fireworks – in place of the July 4th celebrations – tomorrow, August 28.
The concert will be conducted by Wilbur Wittemann beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the All Wars Memorial Amphitheater near Lake Carasaljo, off Route 9.
The fireworks display will begin around 9:00 p.m. and can be viewed either from North or South Lake Drive.
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is day of national recognition that acknowledges the contributions workers have made in making America strong and prosperous. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894. It also signals the symbolic end of Summer.
I am really looking forward to both the concert and the fireworks shows. B’H we have such great healthy outlets for our kids to come and have a wonderful evening at the lake.
Ahhh… Labor Day 2013…
When we celebrate the Social and Economic Achievments of those whose hard earned money pays for the government programs and of course, a fireworks display…
Yes, we thank you, ye laborers, for working so hard so that others can enjoy the benefits of your sweat and toil…
A bona fide Labor Day 2013
it was canceled from a nice summer night, to a school night:(
why would they have it on a wednesday???? most people work during the week. it would have been nice to have it on a weekend so ALL of lakewood residents could enjoy it.
My guess is that they had to coordinate it with the fireworks company and this was a day that mutually worked.
I thought they originally planned for upcoming Sunday. Also it was delayed due to weather which turned out to be a nice day. Now it’s raining, so still having?
