Tolls Increases At Tunnels And Bridges Take Effect For Cash And E-ZPass Users

When passing the Outerbridge or other tunnels and bridges, get ready to pay more. This morning, tolls at the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing all rose $4 for cash payers, from $8 to $12. For trucks, the charge is now $13 per axle.

E-ZPass users will also see a raise, from $8 to $9.50. (Carpool users still receive a discount. See information here).

The PATH train also increased its tolls this morning by 25 cents, to $2. It will increase another 75 cents over the next 4 years.

By the time the tolls finish rising in 2015, as originally planned, the price to cross a bridge or tunnel will be $12.50 for E-ZPass users during peak hours, and $15 for cash payers.

As reported last month, Governors Chirstie and Coumo approved the hikes which they say will help maintain the bridges and tunnels.

On the Outerbridge, you can sometimes “handle” for a cheaper price.

And again they say the money is NEEDED for the repairs of the bridges, tunnels and road ways. I am ok with that, BUT, I know where the money will really go, it will go to the executives for pay raises and bonuses and if that happens then people should be fired. We are in a recession no one should get pay raises, especially with public money.

I think it is time to stay home and not travel to New York any more. It is getting way too expensive.

Number#12
Correction, Both unions and the Gov. and destroying the state. In the papers both NY and NJ Gov’s agreed to it. However it seems only bridges and tunnels that connect NJ and NY got raised. if Gov. Christie said no, it would have never happened.

It is amazing that the New York bridges cost so much more to maintain than any other bridge on the world.

The tolls are supposed to pay for the bridges’ maintenance, even if that includes bonuses… But they are not intended to pay for WTC reconstruction or to secure other union jobs. That’s where the problem lies.
