A three-vehicle accident in Lakewood tonight left three people injured, with two of those transported to local hospitals.
The accident occurred at the intersection of River Avenue and Finchley Boulevard.
Lakewood Police, Lakewood Fire, Lakewood EMS and Hatzolah of Central Jersey all responded.
River Avenue was closed Southbound for several hours.

People need to slow down, get off their phones and come to full stops at stop signs. The amount of accidents is staggering these days.
That intersection has been an accident waiting to happen. Nothing to do with phones. Needs a traffic light.
That intersection is horrible – especially if you’re trying to make a left onto Rte 9 from Finchley
My prayers go out for all the injured. May they get well quick.
Side note. This intersection has been in desperate desperate need of remodeling or a traffic light for years. Living in the Hearthstone neighborhood, it is the most stressful and anxiety filled part of my daily commutes. I know people who wont even bother trying to turn left onto rt 9 from Finchley.
And with Presidential Estates across the 9, and a shopping center just further south, that intersection is a danger to society.
May Hashem send a Refuah Shelaima to all the injured ASAP.
If you are coming out of Finchley and want to turn left on the 9 towards 9 North, it makes more sense to turn right and go a drop and then make a left into the shopping area and over there turn around. I agree that you will lose about 3-4 minutes, but Hashem can easily give you

for all those extra minutes that you lost.
I live on the block. Has nothing to do with phones. It’s impossible to turn out of Finchley. And with traffic backing up behind you, it gets really stressful at that intersection.
How many people need to get hurt there before someone with authority realizes we need a light there?!?

There seems to be not a day goes by that there are no motor vehicle accidents in Lakewood , yes some intersections are dangerous ,however I see people taking chances everyday and some who just ignore stop signs almost daily .Combine those two factors and the results can be deadly . Is it worth your life to save a few minutes time?
No courtesy, people in too much of a hurry, bad, neglectful traffic control and lack of traffic enforcement all combine to make Lakewood a very difficult town to drive through. And yes, handheld phones are a very large cause of accidents in this town. I can’t count how many people are holding their phones with a car full of children. This must stop and the only way that’s going to happen is if traffic laws are enforced.
Stop honking the horn when someone wants to turn left and is trying to be more cautious and taking a bit more time.
