Thousands of Dollars of Tzedakah Money Stolen From Shuls; LCSW Asks Gabbaim To Be Cautious

Thousands of dollars were reported stolen from Shuls last night, and some of the thefts were caught on video. LCSW this afternoon issued the following statement and alert in response to the thefts.

LCSW is actively on the lookout as we have discovered that there are two ‘meshulachim’ who have been stealing large sums of money from pushkes in Batei Midrashim over the last 24 hours.

These ‘meshulachim’ have been making the rounds at shuls and making off with thousands of dollars of tzeddakah money. We have clear video footage of the meshulachim and we know exactly what they look like. We have been in contact with local Rabbonim and the Lakewood Police Dept. regarding this matter.

Gabboim of shuls should take great caution. No money should be left in shuls overnight or unattended at any time throughout Purim, and shuls should be locked overnight.

In no way should you hesitate or decline to give tzeddakah to meshulachim over Purim. Please do not accuse or suspect innocent people. This is merely an alert.

If you see anything or anyone suspicious, please immediately call police, as well as LCSW’s 24-hour dispatch hotline at 732-367-1212.

What these “people” did is despicable! Aside from actually stealing the sum of money they did, they also make me wary of giving to honest meshulahim that come to me for money.

Did they notify airport security? Could there be a photo of the suspects so we can assist in their apprehension? Or if they come to my home…

I think #2 means to send them a picture to be on the lookout for the suspect going back home.
