The Lakewood Fire Department Fire Prevention Expo this morning attracted thousands of children and parents.
The event featured two live-fire demonstrations, a vehicle extrication demonstration, and a fire safety trailer demonstration presented by the Jackson Fire Bureau.
The Jackson Fire Bureau’s fire safety trailer, which is designed to replicate different rooms of a home, gave children a hands-on opportunity to learn important fire safety lessons in a realistic home environment.
The first live-fire demonstration showed how firefighters safely burn off propane from a damaged container when the leak cannot be secured.
The second live-fire demonstration, conducted with the assistance of the West Windsor Fire Department and its trailer, explained to children the difference keeping a bedroom door closed at night can make and how fire behavior changes inside a home.
Additional participating agencies included the Lakewood Police Department, Lakewood EMS, the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, New Jersey State Police, Chaveirim, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, public utility companies, and others.

I’m sure a lot went into planning, preparing, and then having the expo. I had a really great time, all of the demonstrations were really interesting, it was nice to see they had giveaways and activities for kids, as well as bringing out some really cool vehicles. The turnout was really great too, I think it was a great idea to have it now, and it would be a good idea to do so in future years.
