Impeachment Underway In Senate – President Trump’s trial in the US Senate began in earnest this week with House managers, led by Adam Schiff, making the case for why Senators should remove the president from office. White House lawyers will begin delivering their responses this weekend.
Coronavirus Fears – A respiratory infection originating in China that has sickened hundreds and killed dozens has US officials concerned and taking precautions to combat it. At least 2 US citizens have been confirmed with the virus, which has symptoms similar to the flu. Officials in China have completely quarantined entire cities to quell the spread of the illness, and passengers arriving from China to major US airports are being monitored for symptoms of the illness and being quarantined if necessary.
Pence Attends Ceremony In Israel – Vice President Mike Pence attended a ceremony in honor of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz at Yad Vashem in Israel. Joined by many world leaders, including Emmanuel Macron of France and Vladimir Putin of Russia, Pence pledged to never allow the atrocities of the Holocaust happen again. Vice President Pence also invited Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to visit the White House next week where it is expected that President Trump will unveil his plan for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Obama Concerned By Sanders – Reports say that former President Barack Obama is concerned about socialist Bernie Sanders’ popularity in the Democratic party, and is concerned that he may end up winning the nomination. Obama believes that Sanders is simply too radically liberal to ever win a national election and his nomination would be a gift to President Trump in his quest to secure a second term in office. Some reports suggest that President Obama is planning to make a public announcement telling Democratic voters to choose a candidate that has more crossover appeal, like Joe Biden or Pete Buttigieg, who are seen as being more moderate.
Gun Rally In Virginia – A massive gun rally in Richmond, Virginia ended peacefully after fears that gun rights activists would cause mayhem prompted Governor Ralph Northam to declare a state of emergency prior to the event. About 22,000 people attended the gun rally in protest of new gun controls laws recently passed in the Virginia State Senate.
