The Scoop on Skillful Driving: TLS teams up with Skillful Driving to improve driving in Lakewood

Did you know there are more than 20 car accidents in Lakewood every day? And when it rains, or there’s snow on the ground, that number unfortunately increases dramatically.

In response, The Lakewood Scoop and Yehoshua Eidlitz, owner of Skillful Driving School, Lakewood, have teamed up in an effort to improve the driving around town.

In the coming weeks, TLS will be publishing tips and reminders about driving safely – brought to you by Skillful Driving School.

We know that everyone is in a hurry, but take a minute to refresh your driving memory and SLOW DOWN!

Finally!! Very good idea! Start by: when you are taking a left keep to the left, when making a right keep to the right

Not always. Sometimes you must stay in line – such as 4 way stops. It is illegal to pass on the right to make a right turn. You must wait your turn.

I can’t thank skillful enough!! They were so courteous and punctual! They really worked with us to rearrange schedules and squeeze us in when we needed! Everyone should take some sort of lesson/course with them!! Thanks again, skillful!

If you see a red octagon shapes sign with the words STOP at the end of a road, it means you should actually put your foot on the break and STOP

I always had my theories as to why so many accidents in this town. Young, inexperienced drivers. Congested streets leading to impatient drivers taking risks. New York mentality etc.
However, I finally realized the truth when my kids started learning to drive – DRIVING SCHOOLS TEACH YOU HOW TO PASS THE ROAD TEST. NOT HOW TO DRIVE!
All the tips in the world won’t help if kids never learn how to properly drive in the first place.
DRIVING SCHOOLS, PLEASE TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO DRIVE!!

How about paying attention to the road in front of you and NOT looking down at your smartphone while driving.

Dear Loops,
Your description is accurate and this occurs exactly the same in our city. But, the daily accident rate per 100 drivers is extremely lower than that of Lakewood. So, there must be another angle involved. I personally hate driving in Lakewood on my visits there as there are so many aggressive and impatient drivers leading to many near accidents. Not to mention the guy who parked in front of us at bagel Nosh and backed right into our van bending the fender. My entire family was sitting in the car. At first he flat out denied it. I pointed out that I had 8 witnesses and encouraged him to fess up, which he eventually did, but did not pay or offer to pay for the damages of around $300. I let it go bc of the out of town inconvenience but it did perturb me.
