A young motorcyclist was hospitalized after crashing while attempting to make a turn on a road in Manchester yesterday.

On Sunday, at approximately 12:00 pm, members of the Manchester Township Police responded to the area of the Lincoln Boulevard and McMahon Street, in the Whiting section of the Township, for the report of a motorcyclist down with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located a damaged Silver Suzuki GSXR 1300 motorcycle lying on its side in the driveway of 1961 Lincoln Boulevard and an injured male occupant laying a few feet away.  

The investigation revealed that the operator of the motorcycle was traveling north on McMahon Street attempting to negotiate a turn. While negotiating the turn, the motorcyclist’s peg made contact with the pavement causing the motorcyclist to lose control.

The motorcyclist attempted to correct himself causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and ultimately slide until finally coming to rest in the driveway.  

The driver of the Suzuki, 18-year-old Nicolas Ferrer of Medford, was wearing a DOT helmet and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  

Assisting at the scene were Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Priced Rite Towing. The investigation into this crash is still ongoing; however, driver error and speed have been determined to be the contributing factors. The crash is being investigated by Ptl. Sage Sysol of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

With the warm weather and increasing traffic, the Manchester Township Police Department would like to remind all motorists to watch out for motorcycles and for all motorcyclists to always wear DOT approved helmets and equipment when riding.
