Lakewood Golf Community Requests That the Hole in Lake Carasaljo Bridge Remain In Place, and That the Bridge be Turned Into a Practice Golf Putting Range
Upon learning that the Lake Carasaljo pedestrian bridge in Lakewood was recently shut down due to a hole that was discovered in the bridge, members of the Lakewood golf community are calling on the township to leave the hole in place and to turn the entire bridge into a golf practice putting range.
“Why spend taxpayer money to fix the hole when the township can turn the entire bridge into a practice putting range and charge money for it?” said Jerry Teeoff, a longtime Lakewood resident and a top-tier golfer. “This, in turn, would save Lakewood taxpayers lots of money and bring in significant revenue to the township’s coffers.”
Mr. Teeoff went on to note that transforming the bridge into a putting range would require that a netting material be placed underneath the hole and that a large portion of the lake be enclosed with extra tall fences to prevent the golf balls from landing in the water.
“The last thing I want when I’m practicing putting is a waterlogged golf ball,” Mr. Teeoff said.
When asked whether the whole bridge-golf putting concept was feasible, Lakewood Mayor, Ray Coles told reporters on Sunday that he relayed the golf community’s request to Golf champion, Scottie Scheffler, and that he is awaiting the latter’s advice on the matter.
“If Scottie gives the go-ahead,” the Mayor said, “it’s full steam ahead. We’ll hire a golf course contractor to come down to Lakewood and to erect a beautiful putting range right on top of the bridge.”
“Bottom line,” the Mayor said, “when you can turn a hole inside a bridge into a huge asset instead of a huge liability you’ve got to seize that opportunity.”
