The Metropolitan Transportation Authority which oversees multiple New York bridges and tunnels announced that the tolls for several tunnels and bridges, including the Verrazano, would be raised beginning on Sunday.
The toll increases which were approved by the MTA on February 27, does not provide a discount to holders of EZ-Pass tags that were issued by New Jersey. Only those carrying EZ-Pass tags issued by New York would get a discounted toll rate, whereas New Jersey tag holders would pay the same rate as those who get billed by mail.
The Verrazano Narrows Bridge cash toll will increase from $17 to $19, and the EZ-Pass toll will rise from $11.52 to $12.24. The increase effectively makes the Verrazzanno the most expensive bridge in the United States. The MTA said they will also be increasing the tolls on the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel, the Throgs Neck Bridge, and the Queens Midtown Tunnel.
The MTA says the increases are necessary to achieve budgeted revenue targets and estimates that the toll increases will add an additional $336 million in annual revenue to MTA coffers.
There’s already SO much traffic i can’t believe they are going to narrow the bridge with this price increase – how upsetting!
I agree with Robere and This is crazy of New York is getting worse on Government political situation. People will be leaving NYC and move out.
Somebody has to pay for the salaries of the political appointments, they need a pay raise for their outstanding work.
You do not need to be a NY resident to get a NY E-ZPass
