Dr. Proschan moved to Lakewood about 40 years ago when he accepted the position of Director of Computer Operations at Lakehurst Naval Air Station. He was a brilliant mathematician and computer scientist, who taught these subjects at the prestigious Courant Institute in NYC. In Lakewood he became very close to numerous Kollel families and Rabbonim, he became very Observant, and developed a deep love for Torah learning, in which he excelled, and had regular sedorim for many years.

HaGaon R’ Josh, on the recommendation of HaGaon HaTzaddik R’ Kenny Blackstein zt”l, helped my wife and I set up our computers for our new business about 10 yrs ago. He also ate by us on several occassions. R’ Josh knew the computer systems cold, better than the ppl who designed it. He was telling the Microsoft techs how to fix the bugs in their systems. He was also, as mentioned, extremely eidel & always with a smile. And while he was reserved, he was NOT depressed or downtrodden. He was a special, special person. Please post his name for Mishnayos.TNZB”H.
Yehoshua Hershel ben Yehuda Leib
ben Aryeh Leib
Yehoshua Hershel ben Aryeh Leib is correct
should we start a mishnayos list for a siyum?
note the Levaya changed to 930 to accommodate those who want to go to the Bais Oilam – we are working on a minyon, if u can make it, please text 7329047171
@abe – a mishnayos list would be a great idea but im sure theyll do one in his shul or shiur. Additionally, we can all try to do what we can to learn l’iluy nishmosoi hatehoirah. I think he had a special neshama. And such a massive baal kishron, it was astounding. BDE.
Joshua was born 9 February 1943 to Louis PROSCHAN and Helen TEICHBERG PROSCHAN. Genealogical information on Louis and his ancestors can be found at: http://proschan.net/p593.htm. May his memory be for a blessing.
I met Joshua in 1998 when we were working on a project at Lucent. We kept in touch, all these years. He was a good friend. Rest in Peace, Josh. I will miss you.
Did Joshua Proschan live in Brooklyn when he was a child? I may be the neighbor who took him to school each day. If it was him, he was very brilliant even then.
