A reader spotted an advertisement in Penn Station promoting Zaro’s Family Bakery’s new “Challah Sandwiches,” but keep in mind: Zaro’s stores are not kosher.
The ad shows a “Turkey Cheese” sandwich, which is meat with cheese, alongside a grilled cheese sandwich.
Anyone seeing the word “challah” in the ad should not assume the sandwiches are kosher.

If i understand this correctly, the place has a hechsher on some of its items but other items, with heimishe names, are totally treif?
I would think the heschsher should be pulled entirely to avoid some understandable confusion.
I can’t imagine that there is ANY hechsher if they are selling turkey and cheese sandwiches.
When we moved to Israel we really got into the habit of checking the posted kosher certification of the place where we wanted to eat. Any out of date certificate means no certificate because we don’t know why it is not/was not renewed.
Unfortunately we have come to a point in time where you have to tell people that milk and meat sandwiches are actually non kosher! If we would just stay in our lane and stop trying to copy the goyim we would not have to make such obvious announcements!
