Romanticizing weaponry under the pretext of hishtadlus is bizarre.

Like everything in Lakewood. We take a totally goyishe concept, add a hebrew word, and turn it into a mitzva. If this was truly about hishtadlus, there is no need to publicize it.

Looks like he’s in the comfort of his home. I’m sure he has locks on his doors. I think our local police departments are capable of protecting us. If someone has some long guns as a hobby that’s fine, that’s his right.If he wants to visualize as if he’s living somewhere in Yehuda V’Shomron, where such long guns are necessary, that’s also his right.

Interesting how guns and the most powerful military in the middle east didn’t help prevent oct7 plenty of armed people lived there and are now no longer alive.

Also, calling it a “long gun” is telling. If this guy thinks he needs it for protection, it has nothing to do with long or short gun.

BTW, is it a shul or playgroup or wine cellar or a comic story (as others have asked)?! And why would he even need a gun there? Also, this topic has been discussed enough here, why again?!
And as R’ Moshe Tuvia Leif said, among the many issues of having a gun, maybe just maybe if he gets into an argument over a parking spot, he might “remember” he needs to take it out of his car to put it in the trunk. Not to use it, of course, but just to let the other guy know that he has it and that he’s messing with the wrong fellow – that’s it’s simply disrespectful to mess with a person like him! But when you think about it, that means he’s using his gun already against another Yid R”l, even though he doesn’t intend to actually “use” it. If you think about it, it’s shocking and horrific. This is just one of the many reasons he said to NOT have a gun.
And as R’ Elya Brudny said, people who think the few attacks we’ve had in frum communities is what we need to deal with, are naive and forget about seh echad bain shiv’im z’eivim.
About hishtadlus shailos, R’ Leif said that he once asked his rosh yeshiva, Rav Shmuel Berenbaum zt”l, who said that m’mah nafshach – whichever way you look at it: If the streets are a makom skana (danger), you’re not allowed to go out of your house, and if you’re allowed to go out, then why do you need a gun?
(Many of those pushing guns are somehow connected to the gun industry. I’ve seen roundtable discussions on frum shiurim sites where they used talking points such as hishtadlus and self-defense, but it was clearly advertisement for gun sellers.)
And I’ll just add that it’s the same with junk food and meds; the med —INDUSTRY— is holding at $5.3 trillion per year in the US alone!!! It is 20% of the GDP (gross domestic product – all products and services). Now, even 2% would be huge, but 20%?!. It is the absolute largest industry and does the absolutely largest amount of lobbying. And they do everything in their power to further the industry from legal, political and advertising standpoints. Insurance companies – which are absolutely part and parcel of it of this mostly sewage cesspool – even if they seem to fight the hospitals to the dollar, that’s just part of the shpeel (play) – are willing to pay out big bucks, as the best advertisement is word of mouth (sorry to advertising agencies! – but we assume that whatever is advertised is as if it was word of mouth from a friend!), and when people hear of relatives and friends who get medicine and surgery, they say to themselves ‘this is real, maybe I need it to’. Then they start realizing various itches and mosquito bites they have, and panic. But if you have a friend who eats healthfully etc, you start doing so too, and ABSOLUTELY feel the difference!!!

On the other hand, when Jews are getting stabbed on Tisha B’Av in NYC, maybe it would be nice to be able to shoot the guy stabbing Jews, rather than be the next person to get stabbed. That’s not just my opinion, btw. That’s halacha.
