According to a study recently published by Safewise, Jackson Township ranks 31st out of 244 Cities.
Jackson also boasts a population of 58,120 and a median income of $95,069. Overall, New Jersey’s violent crime rate dropped nearly 6% compared to last year with Jackson having a similar percentage of violent crime rate as last year (.5%).
Lakewood Township with a population of 108,023 is number 126 of the 244 cities in New Jersey on the scale of “safest cities.”
Last year at around the same time, Lakewood was ranked 122.
The Safewise study calculated crime rates for every city in the state that met certain population thresholds, based on the state’s median population and crime reports submitted to the FBI. There is also a correlation between safest city and median household income, with the safest city, Sparta Township, having the highest median income at over $138,000.
Here are some other important statistics from the same study:
- In the past 12 months, 21% of thefts have been package thefts.
- In the past 12 months, 9% of all violent crimes included a gun.
- In the past 12 months ,12% of all crimes have been violent.
- 52% of people in New Jersey reported feeling safe in their state compared to 55% of Americans.
- Twice as many people in New Jersey (12%) reported having a personal experience with violent crime in the 12 months prior to the survey—up from 6% the previous year.
- Robbery is the most-reported violent crime, making up 25% of all violent crime in The Garden State (US 19%).
I find it ironic, and interesting, that Republicans are accusing supreme court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, of being soft on crime, and yet, her township – JACKSON Township – is among the safest cities in New Jersey.
